SHANDS 4 U: A YOUTH'S GUIDE TO
SHANDS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
IPAD APP AND CHILDREN'S BOOK
Hospital visits can be daunting for both children and adults alike. Shands 4 U is an informational I-Spy game, produced as an iPad app and accompanying children's book. The experience is intended for patients at Shands Children's Hospital in Gainesville, FL waiting to undergo an operation. Both the book and app include information on the different stages of the hospital experience from check-in to post-operation. I-Spy games, examples using child patient characters, and hospital staff introductions are included in the app and book.
The print and digital versions are intended to be interchangeable to accommodate a limited number of iPads available for patients, both versions including the same information and gaming content.
Collaboration with UX/UI designer Ian Costello, childcare specialists from Shands Children's Hospital, and computer software engineers from the University of Florida contributed to the final product.
